Powell Church has long been a mission-driven community of faith. We take seriously Jesus’ call to love and serve our neighbors. Powell Church is also solidly committed to helping our neighbors in need right here in East Tennessee through efforts such as our food pantry, Highways and Byways, Morgan-Scott Project, Prison Fellowship and Angel Tree, and many more. These ministries, highlighted below, are also a great way to serve others and grow in your faith journey.

Food Pantry

Our food pantry has served over 2800 families in 2018 from the local communities. We are open Monday through Friday from 9am-10am, and the third Saturday of each month from 9am till noon. For more information call the church office at 865-938-2741.

The Clothes Closet

Clothes Closet is temporarily closed. Donations may be taken to any KARM store or the Community Chest. If donating to a KARM store tell the you are from Powell Church and we will get credit towards KARM gift cards we can give out to families in need.

Operation Backyard provides free home repair services for low-income homeowners. Powell Church servants provide the work and homeowners with limited income receive much-needed home repairs. Servants experience the reward of helping those less fortunate than themselves, and find they have been ministered to as well. The entire community grows closer and stronger in the process.

Highways and By-Ways

Powell Church has been helping provide meals and much more to Knoxville’s homeless community since 2001. We also provide financial support, transportation, and encouragement to those who feel the world and the church has forgotten them. During the pandemic, Highways and Byways is providing a brown bag ministry every Thursday evening. Individuals or groups can assist by making sandwiches, assembling the bags, or handing out the bags.

Morgan Scott Project

Powell Church provides support to the Morgan Scott Project in Deer Lodge, Tennessee with financial contributions as well as collecting vegetable seeds each spring for their Good Earth Garden project. This project provides seeds and fertilizer to families that might not otherwise be able to afford to plant a vegetable garden. To learn more about the Morgan Scott Project, go to their website at

Holiday Basket Ministry

We provide Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for families in our community that need a little help to provide a holiday meal for their family. This is a great opportunity for your family, small group, or Sunday School class to get involved.

Prison Fellowship Angel Tree Party

Each year we host a Christmas party for children in our community who have a parent or step-parent in prison. You can adopt an angel to provide two gifts for the child on behalf of their parent that is incarcerated. We also need lots of volunteers to make our party a success. The children get to have their picture taken with Santa, make crafts, play games, eat lots of food, and experience the love of Jesus. For more information, click HERE.
