What do we believe? For 1,700 years, the most consistent and unifying answer in Christianity has been the Nicene Creed. The creed was born from the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, the first official gathering of church leaders after the end of persecution from the Roman Empire. It has remained almost entirely unchanged for 17 centuries, and continues to be upheld by Methodists, Baptists, Catholics, and every major denomination.
This fall, as we celebrate its 1700th anniversary, our church is walking through the Nicene Creed together. This reading plan will take us through each of the core beliefs of Christianity found in the creed, bringing together material from 19 different books of the bible to highlight each statement of faith. And we’ll come together on Sunday mornings to walk through not just what we believe, but how our beliefs are helping us be.
