Hands-on Mission Projects

Food Pantry

Our Food Pantry served over 2,000 families in 2016 from the local communities. If you have a passion for helping others, either by serving and talking to them directly, or by giving food or other much needed items then we invite you to talk to Joe for more details: We are open Monday through Friday from 9-10 AM, and the third Saturday of each month from 9- Noon. Joseph.brawley@att.net or call 254-6052.

The Clothes Closet

The Clothes Closet is open the third Saturday of every month from 9-12pm.

We are now accepting clothes for a new clothing ministry at Powell Church.

Donations of clothing should show respect for the humanity of the person receiving them whether they are a member of the homeless community, a member of our church, or a member of our own community. People often think of donations as an easy way to just get rid of old clothes. However, donations are very important in providing clean (free of smoke/mildew), quality and current style clothing to those in need. Please donate responsibly and choose items that are useful for our neighbors.

OBY

Operation Backyard provides free home repair services for low-income homeowners. Powell Church servants provide the work and homeowners with limited income receive much-needed home repairs. Servants experience the reward of helping those less fortunate than themselves, and find they have been ministered to as well. The entire community grows closer and stronger in the process. If you are interested in serving in this ministry or learning more about it, click here for the OBY website or contact Jeremy Hayes at jeremyhayes011@yahoo.com.

Morgan Scott Project

Powell Church provides support to the Morgan Scott Project in Deer Lodge, Tennessee with financial contributions as well as collecting vegetable seeds each spring for their Good Earth Garden project. This project provides seeds and fertilizer to families that might not otherwise be able to afford to plant a vegetable garden. To learn more about the Morgan Scott Project, go to their website at www.morganscottproject.org.

Holiday Basket Ministry

We provide Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for families in our community that need a little help to provide a holiday meal for their family. This is a great opportunity for your family, small group, or Sunday School class to get involved. Contact PUMCbaskets@yahoo.com for additional information.

Prison Fellowship Angel Tree Party

Each year we host a Christmas party for children in our community who have a parent or step-parent in prison. You can adopt an angel to provide two gifts for the child on behalf of their parent that is incarcerated. We also need lots of volunteers to make our party a success. The children get to have their picture taken with Santa, make crafts, play games, eat lots of food, and experience the love of Jesus. For more information, click here.
