Powell Church has long been a mission-driven community of faith. We take seriously Jesus’ call to love and serve our neighbors. For years we have received a Happy Birthday Jesus Offering which is our sole source of funding for international missions in Guatemala and Haiti, but Powell Church is also solidly committed to helping our neighbors in need right here in East Tennessee as well, through efforts such as our food pantry, highways and byways, Morgan-Scott Project, Prison Fellowship and Angel Tree, and many more.

To assist with our local neighbors in need we will be receiving an Easter offering similar to our Happy Birthday Jesus offering that will support our local missions efforts. We often challenge you at Christmastime to consider supporting international missions by giving an amount equal to what you spend on your own family’s Christmas. Many of our local missions focus on providing support for every day needs such as food and shelter and so we’re challenging you to take a look at how much you spend in general necessities such as your grocery bill, utilities, clothing, etc., and prayerfully consider giving 10% of that total to help support our neighbors in need.

We will receive this offering on Easter Sunday as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. What better way to give back to the one who gave his very life for us than to help give a better life to our neighbors in need?

OBY

Operation Backyard provides free home repair services for low-income homeowners. Powell Church servants provide the work and homeowners with limited income receive much-needed home repairs. Servants experience the reward of helping those less fortunate than themselves, and find they have been ministered to as well. The entire community grows closer and stronger in the process. If you are interested in serving in this ministry or learning more about it, click here for the OBY website or contact Jamie Bauknight at jbauknight@powellchurch.com.

Highways and By-Ways

Powell Church has been helping provide meals and much more to Knoxville’s homeless community since 2001. We also provide financial support, preachers, transportation, and encouragement to hose who feel the world and the church has forgotten them. Preacher Bob even assists with rent, groceries, medicine, and help with getting off the streets and into a healthier lifestyle. If you or a your small group would like to provide a meal for Highways and By-Ways please contact Kim Kenyon at servingpreacherbobs@gmail.com.

Morgan Scott Project

Powell Church provides support to the Morgan Scott Project in Deer Lodge, Tennessee with financial contributions as well as collecting vegetable seeds each spring for their Good Earth Garden project. This project provides seeds and fertilizer to families that might not otherwise be able to afford to plant a vegetable garden. To learn more about the Morgan Scott Project, go to their website at www.morganscottproject.org.

Holiday Basket Ministry

We provide Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for families in our community that need a little help to provide a holiday meal for their family. This is a great opportunity for your family, small group, or Sunday School class to get involved. Contact PUMCbaskets@yahoo.com for additional information.

Prison Fellowship Angel Tree Party

Each year we host a Christmas party for children in our community who have a parent or step-parent in prison. You can adopt an angel to provide two gifts for the child on behalf of their parent that is incarcerated. We also need lots of volunteers to make our party a success. The children get to have their picture taken with Santa, make crafts, play games, eat lots of food, and experience the love of Jesus. For more information, click HERE.
